Who We Are

Our History

Southwest Ohio Leadership (SWOL) Regional Issues Day was initiated in 2006 through the efforts of Leadership Clinton, Leadership Highland and Leadership Warren County.  LEAD Clermont, Leadership Cincinnati, Leadership Dayton and Leadership Hamilton joined the planning team in subsequent years. The model was based on Regional Day in Northeast Ohio which brings participants and alumni from more than 25 community leadership programs together to discuss regional issues important to their communities.

SWOL sponsored Regional Issues Day in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011

Many individuals, groups and organizations in both the Cincinnati and Dayton regions and neighboring counties are currently talking about inclusion and collaboration between education establishments and community needs and resources.

Directors and alumni of community leadership programs in Warren, Clinton, Butler and Fayette Counties, plus others in the region and city leadership programs, believe that the 14-county Southwest Ohio Region will benefit from ongoing discussion, focus groups and action plans to achieve more collaboration in various arenas.  These community leaders are committed to helping foster regional discussions, contributing both time and energy to the effort.

SWOL is all about facilitating and accelerating the development of a thriving community in the 14 counties* making up South West Ohio, integrating the growth of Cincinnati and Dayton as commercial centers providing a high quality of diverse economic, social and educational opportunities.

SWOL has a rather unique vision … that economic and community development can be enhanced and accelerated by counties and commercial development activists working together on a collaborative rather than a competitive basis, ultimately benefitting communities in the region.

SWOL is thus bringing together representatives from these counties, and from many business and commercial interests, to identify needs, issues and actions that can be taken to facilitate and accelerate beneficial development activities … taking into account the issues of transportation, natural and energy resources, educational, residential and commercial resources, and including agricultural as well as manufacturing and service industries … seeking an inclusive and integrated approach to “making the pie bigger” for the benefit of the region as a whole.

Southwest Ohio Leadership has community leadership programs in some of 15 counties of SW Ohio: Adams, Brown, Butler, Clark, Clermont, Clinton, Darke, Fayette, Greene, Hamilton, Highland, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Warren
